There seem to be lots of people who will charge for this knowledge, but there have to be some good free sources out there for identifying profitable niche markets for blogs/websites/forums. What are the best ones? What's a good place to start?

You are on the management team of a rapidly growing privately owned apparel company.Your company has succeeded by targeting a niche market that will pay more for fashionable styles, making the speed and flexibility of operations more important then the price. A fundamental tenet of your company is the belief that apparel manufacturing should be profitable without exploiting workers. This summer your team found the company couold not keep pace with orders. You added a second shift and hired 1000 new sewers to staff it, bringing the total number of sewers to 3000. During the summer months, all employees worked full time and often overtime to meet sales needs. Its now september, and the companys inventory is growing too large. Sales are slow during winter, so your company must slow production. max production is 400,000 pieces, each of the 3000 workers produces 20 pieces a day.We need to slow production down. What is the best way to go about this?

I'm working on a story in which one character owns a small (10-15 employees) company that sells (and maybe installs and upgrades, etc.) some product of computer programming. But I'm stuck for specific ideas. I want the company to be modestly profitable and pretty secure--a small lucrative niche that the big boys wouldn't bother trying to take over.Like providing software to ... chiropractors offices, say, or law libraries or something. But I want a -better- idea!Any help?Update: Thanks for the question, Linux OS! Set in present time: the company's somewhere around ten years old, give or take.

Is creating sub domains a good way of building a profitable Adsense empire? I have read that it saves you money if you just add a subdomain to your main site, rather than fork out more on a new domain and webspace for a different niche.

Dear (Sir/Madam),We are selling equity in a financial media company - For the following reasons we believe the return on investment will prove better than market average:The company posts real revenues, is profitable and unlike major media players, has a HIGH profit margin and carries virtually no debt. Earnings are increasing most quarters. Furthermore, the company operates in a niche which has remained unassailable by larger corporations—their business models cannot return a high enough profit in our space. We are selling shares @ .75 cents per share. We agree to register your stock and we believe our stock will open at more than one dollar. We are introducing this opportunity to Accredited Investors only; the Number of shares is limited to 1MM for this PPM. my teenagers are off for the summer; they are excited about starting their own business. I'm glad to help, but am looking forward to the chance to read the truth (i.e., not marketing hype!) about how to approach ebay as a retail outlet for a variety of products -- from selling excess but highly regarded audio equipment (e.g., an old MacIntosh MX110 preamp/tuner) to reselling assorted collectibles.Any honest thoughts are appreciated. I've told them it is a tough road, and that some find a profitable niche and some don't; it'll teach them some life lessons, something about retail, economics, honest and dishonest vendors, etc. Your input would be sincerely appreciated. We're looking for replies that are substantive, not soundbytes ... integrity is crucial at this point

I own property outside of Winslow Arizona that has a good aquifer and can be irrigated to about 20 inches of precip per year. I am interested in what crops would be suitable with about 150 days of frost free growing with temp hitting 102F/34C in July. I am interested specifically in crops that are not typically grown in the USA and would benefit from being grown at high altitude (5200 feet/1700m) under some water stress. One of the crops being grown in a similar situation is high quality Lavender. The reason for looking for unusual is that the property only is 36 acres and would need a niche crop to be profitable. Assume somebody with an unusually high iq and a substantial understanding of gambling mathematics, finance, and economics.Assume this individual would be working with total capital of approximately $100k and would work from his home office.Assume this individual could devote several hours per day if necessary.Realistically, is there a reasonable way this individual could master getting in and out of investments in a way that leads to a significantly higher return than the general market? I am pretty well versed in the efficient market hypothesis, and I generally think that short-term trading is little more than flipping coins with transaction costs. But there clearly are entire firms set up that apparently make money trading the market, and there are individuals who do make significant income trading. These successful traders are likely like any business person who found a profitable niche: they do all they can to not publicize how they're making money.Thanks.

How do I go about identifying profitable niches in Internet Marketing? We all know some of the popular niches like golf and fly fishing. But these categories are too competitive with incumbents who have already paved the way into the market place. I realized that it may not be that simple to just get into the common niche markets like this and be successful. The hurdles are also stacked against you in terms of bidding for PPC adwords (going to be costly) and even if you were to do JVs, I believe these relevant JV partners would already have been approached by earlier incumbents. Finally, the crux of the matter is also the lack of a frim understanding for most people in terms of the kind of tools that one can use to scan the market place for niche keywords which leads to an understanding of the types of market demand in question. The keyword results is based on what base keyword you type in and hence limited to that one category of choice for eg golf.
