Now it looks like she just might be the choice. What do you think? Is Palin a good choice? If not, who would you prefer?smithy: In other words, she has about a year and a half more experience than does Obama.jake: That's wonderful. Totally unrelated to the question at hand, but wonderful. Now that the McCain campaign has made a huge deal out of Biden's criticism of Obama during the primary, is it safe to say that they will not be picking Romney?""If you ask people, 'Look at the three things Senator McCain has done as a senator,' if you want that kind of a liberal Democrat course as president, then you can vote for him,.... But those three pieces of legislation, those aren't conservative, those aren't Republican, those are not the kind of leadership that we need as we go forward." --Mitt Romney on John McCain

As an independent voter I haven't decided between Obama and McCain, but sense that McCain is floundering, and I like an interesting contest, not a land-slide. Usually the VP choice doesn't do a whole lot for a candidate, but suppose McCain did something really outside-the-box and asked Sen. Clinton to join his ticket? He is a bit of a maverick, after all. That would gather in a lot of those twerked-off Clinton supporters, and she might just do it. After all, she's pretty twerked off herself. Plus, you know she'd have to think "McCain's an older guy ..."I'm not a big supporter of either party, but would sure like to see something radical happen to break down this polarization we have going right now between Red states and Blue states, and would support just about any split-party ticket...Obama/Huckabee anyone? But (sigh) in reality I know that those who control the parties are too narrow-minded in their vision to ever offer such outrageous choices.Realistically I know this would never happen...and your answers make political sense. "The right" would rip McCain apart, "the press" would castigate Clinton. But what about the great American moderate voter who reluctantly has to choose between whatever two lame candidates the political extremes in both parties offer up each election? And if anything this strange was going to happen in any election, this would be the one. We had a serious woman candidate for U.S. President. We have an African-American man who has a very good chance of becoming President. Unpredicted. Unheard of. Unbelieveable. Almost as weird and wonderful as a split-party ticket.

McCain just chose Sarah Palin to be his VP.http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080829/ap_on_el_pr/cvn_veepstakesShe's only been Alaska's governor for less than 2 years, so there's not a lot of info on her environmental positions. However, she has supported drilling heavily, including opening ANWR.http://www.ontheissues.org/Governor/Sarah_Palin_Environment.htmMcCain has a rather poor environmental record. He received a zero score from the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) for his congressional voting record on environmental issues in 2007. It wasn’t that McCain voted against environmental protections in the 15 key votes that the LCV used to compile its annual congressional scorecard; he just didn’t bother to show up at all. "Out of 535 Members of Congress, John McCain is the only one who chose to miss every single key environmental vote scored by the League of Conservation Voters last year. When it came time to stand up and vote for the environment, John McCain was nowhere to be found,”http://environment.about.com/od/environmentallawpolicy/a/mccain_zero.htmMcCain also doesn't support renewable energy, and favors increased offshore drilling and nuclear as the solution to our energy problems. Here is an interview with McCain about energy and the environment:http://www.grist.org/feature/2007/10/01/mccain/So what do you think about this ticket with regards to environmental issues? Also feel free to chime in with any other opinions about the ticket. For example, what do you think about the fact that McCain has criticized Obama for being too inexperienced, then chose a VP with even less experience than Obama? I found that rather odd.Oh and coincidentally apparently Palin's husband works for oil company BP.To be fair, Palin successfully taxed oil company profits in Alaska.http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080829/ap_on_el_pr/cvn_veepstakes_palin;_ylt=AsQogkRMq9FHNPncQzGZtH2pg9IFTomcat - would you care to defend that obviously false statement?Palin does indeed favor ANWR drilling (heavy supporter of it). McCain does not (although he's open to changing his mind). In short, Palin is a bigger supporter of increased oil drilling than even McCain.http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/08/29/mccain-and-palin-disagree-on-arctic-drilling/Palin also opposes the Bush administration's decision to list polar bears as a threatened species under the Endangered Species Acthttp://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080829/ap_on_el_pr/cvn_palin_vulnerabilities;_ylt=AtarvZP5q8qNfZB9DIp3I9OtOrgFbob326 - in your link he says very little about renewables, and his voting record and comments have shown no support for renewable energy whatsoever.bob326 - I don't consider a minimal amount of lip service to be support. I'm talking about actions, not empty rhetoric (and not even much of that).

If we EVER needed proof of McCan't inability to lead, or mental dementia...THIS IS IT.“DAYTON, Ohio - John McCain picked Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, a maverick conservative with less than two years in office, as his vice presidential running mate Friday in a startling choice as the Republican National Convention drew near. In a fast-developing presidential campaign, McCain made his selection six days after his Democratic rival, Barack Obama, named Sen. Joseph Biden of Delaware, as his running mate. The contrast between the two announcements was remarkable — Obama, 47, picked a 65-year-old running mate with long experience in government ...On his 72nd birthday, McCain chose a 44-year-old running mate who until recently was the mayor of small-town Wasilla, Alaska — and made no claim she was ready to sit in the Oval Office. It wasn't a point lost on Obama's campaign."Today, John McCain put the former mayor of a town of 9,000 with zero foreign policy experience a heartbeat away from the presidency," Adrianne Marsh, a spokeswoman for Obama, said in a written statement.Unlike Biden, who attacked McCain sharply in his debut last week, Palin was indirect in her initial attempts to elevate McCain over Obama.”http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080829/ap_on_el_pr/cvn_veepstakesNo foreign experience WHATSOEVER??No economic policy expertise WHATSOEVER??We're talking about someone who will probably be the President in a year or so if McCan't is elected. You know perfectly well that guy is not going to live through four years of that job.
