Resolved Question: This is me, and 40...

I've never done drugs or smoked and only drank alcohol socially. For most of my life I have had no guidance or direction, no goals. Many days & nights wasted sitting watching birds fly and fish swim. Most of my free time I just get in my car and drive, sometimes for hours, to nowhere in particular. I've never learned to cook, hate getting up for work, I have a simple wardrobe, eat whatever and whenever I like. It seems that I should be doing something other than what I do. I'm not interested in religion either. My question is:Why do I continue to live this way and cannot seem to correct it?

I am a 27 year old male, I have no friends at all. I never really had a lot of friends. Growing up I had a few friends but now that I have grown up, my friends have either moved away or something else. I basically come to work and go home. I have some people at work that I talk to, but once work is over with there is nothing more. Knowing this really depresses me, it's as if I have nothing to live for. I have no girl friend, no love life at all, no one that I can say that I love. I wish it were to change. I feel really odd in groups of people, even talking to someone for the first time I have no idea what to say; I think that's because it has been so long since I have actually talked to anyone outside of work about something random and relates to real life. I don't drink or do drugs, so going to a bar would be worthless for me since that makes me feel awkward. So, should I just end my life and hope I come back as a bird so that friends and a social life would not matter?I wanted to add some details. I live in a major city. At work, there are only a few people that I do talk to, the talk is mostly work related. I enjoy photography and have met a few people doing that but nothing to the extent of a good friendship; just bump into someone at the places we photograph and talk about what we take pictures of. I sometimes just cry, I cry from being sad and alone. I wish I could start a family, but meeting a female is very hard for me. I am not ugly, but slightly heavy. I just don't know what the hell is wrong with me. I've been like this for years now and I am sick of it. I'm some what scared of meeting people, and I think that is a problem.

Resolved Question: Is my bird molting...

August 19, 2008
posted by admin

I have a two year old parrotlet, which I thought was a male, but for three weeks has been laying eggs so is obviously female! As I have never had a female bird before, I'm not sure if her current condition is due to molting, feather picking, or the egg laying process. For about a week now she is losing her feather on her chest. It looks very tender on the patch without feathers. So far she has laid 11 eggs. I have been taking them away from her, since I know they will not hatch as they are not fertile. When I noticed the feathers missing, I thought she might be feather picking, so I gave her an egg back and she has been laying on it since. I see no other signs of molting, so I'm stumped if the egg laying is related to the feather loss. She is eating and drinking well, very vocal and playful with her bells, etc. I did buy her some molting conditioner today to see if that will help. I'd like some advise as to her feather condition, and whether I should be taking her eggs away from her as she lays them. Thank you very much for your help. Jade appreciates your help too!

Yesterday I found a pigeon being attacked by a load of magpies, so I scared the magpies off and, as the pigeon seemed unable to fly, I decided to look after him as a cat or the birds would have got him otherwise.I put him in our old rabbit hutch as it's a quiet place and is safe. I put a small dish of water in as it's a large adult pigeon. I also put in some moistened bread for him. He ate a couple of the moistened pieces of bread yesterday early evening. But he hasn't eaten anything since and he hasn't drunk anything. He's just lying in the hutch. He's moved a tiny bit, but very little since putting him in.I can't really see any injury. His feathers are all ruffled and a bit bent, he did have a tiny sot of blood on his neck, but he doesn't seem to be bleeding now. But for some reason he couldn't fly when we caught him.I will hopefully take him to an animal centre tomorrow, but is there anything I can do to help him before then? I'm worried about his lack of water and food.Just wanted to add: I have got bird seed, dog food and cat food if you think it would be better to feed him that. But I don't have any syringe. Would it be okay to use normal metal tweezers to try to hand him buts of food? I was worried they might be sharp and hurt him.

First one right I will choose as best answer! There are five houses next to each other on a street, painted five different colors. - A person of different nationality lives in each house. - The five home owners each drink a different beverage, smoke a different brand of cigar and keep a different pet. The Question is: Who owns the fish? Here are the clues: 1. The British man lives in a red house. 2. The Swedish man keeps dogs as pets. 3. The Danish man drinks tea. 4. The Green house is next to, and on the left of the White house. 5. The owner of the Green house drinks coffee. 6. The person who smokes Pall Mall rears birds. 7. The owner of the Yellow house smokes Dunhill. 8. The man living in the center house drinks milk. 9. The Norwegian lives in the first house. 10. The man who smokes Blends lives next to the one who keeps cats. 11. The man who keeps horses lives next to the man who smokes Dunhill. 12. The man who smokes Blue Master drinks beer. 13. The German smokes Prince. 14. The Norwegian lives next to the blue house. 15. The Blends smoker lives next to the one who drinks water. GOOD LUCK!!

Hello,Yesterday i got two lovebirds. They were frightened and a bit jolty at first (as i suspected). Today they are a little better , but whenever i put my hand in to move a toy etc they flutter around like mad, terrified. I know this is probably normal but they haven't seemed to have drunken any water, because they haven't gone that far down yet, they have eaten some food but not the food in the flowmatic feeder near the water. Is this normal?? - Sorry - i am probably just being super cautious as i have never owned a bird before!! By the way i didn't constantly put my hand in - i don't want people to think i can't respect their space!

I recall seeing on television news or documentaries an account of how the holes in the plastic material used to hold cans of drinks together into a six pack or a twelve pack, sometimes end up getting caught around the necks of water fowl such as geese and ducks. The plastic material impairs the movement of the bird and causes it discomfort. The bird cannot get it off and it can endanger the life of the animal. I was wondering if the lids of some drinks such as slurpees, pose the same threat, since they have a large hole in the centre which could get caught around the bird's neck if they are not properly disposed of and end up in bodies of water.

The DNA of humans and chimpanzees share 97.5 percent genetic similarity.Chimpanzees have 24 pairs of chromosomes and humans have 23 pairs, so there is a definite discontinuity. We have similar skeleton structureMammals in general can drink and breathe at the same time, humans can't at the price of being able to talk.We have similar limbs and hands.Though apes don't look exactly like us, they do look like they could be almost-human. If you compare a polar bear-panda-koala bear, they not exactly a-like but they are definately in the same family of bear. A cat-tiger-panther-serval are of same family of umm.. cat.So from this do christians deny humans being somewhat related to apes?If you don't deny, why is it so hard believe in evolution when other animals of like-ness share genetic attributes when they have obviously evolved into seperate family groups. ie varieties of cat, dog, bird, fish, bear, APE etc.

My 11 year old cat is short hair tortie who has been skinny her whole life. She is of medium/ large frame and weighs 9 and 1/2 pounds usually (which is in the bottom half of the normal weight range for her) but about a month ago, during her regular vet checkup, she weighed 8 and 1/2 pounds. We decided to put her on a weight gain diet involving more wet food than normal (she likes fish flavored wet food) and she has always had all day access to kibble. She is also an indoor/outdoor cat who occasionally eats birds and squirrels and lizards. Last sunday night (august 10th) , she barfed up clear, non stinky liquid. She did this 4 times during the night. family noticed that right before she threw up, she drank a lot of water, but this was the only time that we observed her doing so. She has also been lethargic with a loss of appetite, and won't even eat kitty treats. she does eat about a quarter of a small cat food can every morning since she's been sick, but she won't eat any more. She hasn't thrown up since early monday morning (today is wednesday) Tuesday night we noticed that she had a fever, and so this morning she went to the vet and is there right now. We've been trying to figure out whats wrong with her. We've come up with toxoplasmosis (she ate a wild bird a few weeks ago), and kidney disease(which i doubt, because she hasn't been drinking water excessively all of the time, and the only time we've seen her pee was in the vet cage this morning , probably because of fear) She is an indoor outdoor cat, and so it is hard to monitor her peeing habits. the night of her fever, she refused to drink milk that i gave her..If you have any ideas of what this might be, please share and say why, please...:(She is already at the vet. shes been there since early this morning

My sister is totally the type A, cyborg overachiever. She always is degrading me, and always showing that she is always right. But that doesn't matter. What matters is that I LOVE birds and I'm getting a sun conure in the next month or two. She thinks I'm wasting my money and that NORMAL 15 year old boys should be into girls, and drinking, and saving for a car. I mean those things aren't really important to me at this time. I even asked her "will you ever understand that I like birds, and they're not a waste of money?" And she said "no." She's always degrading me and saying that I am not normal, because I'm into birds and not other normal 15 year old boy stuff. Is it wrong for me to love something passionately and want to buy a bird so I can love it and cherish it. As i am typing away at this I think i am stupid for asking these questions, but i really do need someone else's perspective. I love birds and always will. I think I am normal. I think everyone has their own weird quirks and twists that set them apart from everyone else. Mine just happens to be birds. Tell me what you think.

I got a budgie about three days ago, very quiet at first but after a few hours, was whistling away.Today however, we found her at the bottom of her cage walking around in circles. She was making a noise not similar to her usual one. It was short and nervous. She was bobbing a bit and shaking. We let her out of the cage, into a room. She appears to have been tamed prior to our purchase of her. She flew around a bit, but mainly but walked around on a persons arm. Also she appears to be eating very little. I know this can be normal for a new bird. She also rarely drinks her water. Could this have something to do with the present problem?I have heard that a sign of illness in budgies is ruffled feathers. She hasn't had any over the last few days. However when she did start ''acting out'' I did notice one feather was sort of bent backwards. Is there anything wrong with the budgie? Should we take her to the vet? Please respond...Thank you for all the current comments.I am now wondering how long a budgie can go without eating? There have been no cracked seed shells at the bottom of her cage. This means she hasnt eaten in 3-4 days.It also appears as if she has trouble moving. I know her feet are working fine but she stumbles etc. Thanks to all ye who said my budgie is ''just gettng used to its environment.''The budgie is now dead!

A few days ago I found a one winged field sparrow at work. When I got home I examined it more closely and found that it was defiantly an injury and not a birth defect. I treated the wound and am giving it vitamins. It is healing very nicely, eating and drinking, and very active. Sadly I know it cannot be released since a predator would get it. It seems content but I would like to find a companion for it. Since I can’t seem to find Sparrows in pet stores or online to buy I would like to know if there is another species of bird that would be compatible. I also am not sure how to tell what sex it is.Thanks, MandyP.S. I am currently keeping it in a bird cage and would like to know what kind of toys would be good for it.

He is now 13 or 14 years old, I rescued him as a kitten from the pound..... 3 months ago, the vet said he has a thyroid cancer or condition and no treatment except this 2x daily medication. She said no more flea treatments, no more immunizations, no tooth extraction. So, he's lost almost 2/3 his former weight and the past 2 weeks he almost completely stopped eating.....YET, he still purrs, he still wants to go outside at night and guard the front of the house, and he still drinks water and a tiny bit of dry food, normally he used to eat 1/2-1 can of canned food every single day, now he just looks at it... I cannot bear to take him to be put to sleep as the vet has mentioned this will be his future (before 9 months from now), anyhow I did see him vomit the other day for the first time but I did not mention it to anyone. I almost wish he would just run away because I CANNOT be the one to make the decision. My husband did that with our cocker spaniel who was only 4 and had an incurable liver condition, he says it's my turn now.PS He still goes out this week and is harrassing the birds and he actually killed one this week I think. About 5 weeks ago I found a little tiny just hatched pink thing wriggling on the sidewalk, so I brought it home with me and took care of it, not expecting it to live. By the large beak and tiny pink wings I knew it was a newborn bird. I've been taking excellent care of my little Humphrey for 5 weeks now and he's doing GREAT! He's a house sparrow. He flies around my room and sometimes follows me. He now eats on his own and drinks water. I do want Humphrey to stay with me, but my parents insist on letting him go free. My backyard has tons of sparrows, but I'm worried that we've domesticated him so much that he won't survive in the wild. I have to release him, but is there any way to prepare Humphrey to be released within the next couple of weeks??(I also got humphrey a pink leg band for him to wear so that if we see him we'll know)

White WallsI sit and I gaze upon the lone red fabric chair. With handles of sharp edges akin to blades and legs of asymmetrical lengths, the chair is empty.”He must be late again”, I think and I wonder as the cold winds of November bash into the room windows. Berry is his name, and he is an eccentric type, perhaps even slightly mad. Always putting on faces, foolishly believing it earns him respect. Sometimes he breaks the stereotype, even tells a joke or two. That is when the world sees Berry's smile and the world gets hope, so they believe his lies. Too few are those moments though. And even if he gets on my nerves sometimes, I laugh at all his jokes; you die if you don’t. Other students will come soon. We all wear the same uniform, yet I don’t speak to them. Instead I look through the only window in the room, sometimes imagining how wonderful it would be if I was dead, and reborn as a roaming, free bird. Unchained, unbroken. That day the sun was slightly weird. Never this strong in the winter, so powerful it was that the old ladies carried umbrellas to shield their bolding foreheads. I was a little amused by the nature’s awkward display. It felt like someone placed an icy blanket over me, when, through this heated mess of wiggly air, in the corner of my eye I glimpsed a sight of Berry's shadowless figure. Realising it must be an optical illusion, a sight of slight confusion; a hint of my insanity, I focused my gaze and noticed him heading for a large red bus in the distance. The outlines of the bus’s numbers were a little hazy, they started with number six, of that I was sure. I was at the edge now, my eyes closed awaiting in trepidation. And while physically I was unable to move, my mind they could not take. And then...I saw it coming closer, my arms outstretched hugging mother Earth. The grass was soft, green and warm. I kissed the soil, thanking it for my safe landing. I could still catch up, I thought, so I ran and I puffed, and in the end I was short of breath, but I managed to catch Berry’s bus. I was tired and could barely move. There was but one seat there, a sweat stained bed. I settled down. My arm hurt at the elbow, the pain made me drowsy and I slept most of the way. We got to the end quickly, the ride was pain free, but the occasional electrical jolt. As we got off somewhere, the first curiosity that struck me was the seemingly rapid change of scenery. An out of the ordinary experience where water fountains and lush greens laid just neath seas of red rose gardens and fields of black sand. Such was the beauty of the place that I stood there for a while, forgetting why I came at all.“Hey, wake up”. A dog’s bark startled me as I attempted to straighten my jacket, a seemingly impossible maneuver. I thanked the dog, caressing its soft skin; I kissed it’s beautiful snout, the slime rolled down my lips. Then just like it came, the dog disappeared. I was all alone again. Then, a feeling of instant jubilation filled me and I was ready to cry in joy when I saw my chance to expose Berry's little secret. Berry was there, embraced in his mother’s hug. The woman looked very young though. She had blonde hair and perky red lips. I overhead him thanking her for the sandwiches she made. I snickered as I formulated my plan to reveal this to all the other teachers. Yes, I will blackmail Berry, I decided. The whole world will know he still lives with his mother. Something peculiar happened. They still hugged as Berry slid his hand down the woman’s back, squeezing her bottom. What were they doing?. My thoughts went back to my mother who I never got to meet. I was angry at Berry. His mother would surely cry if she knew that he threw away her lunch, like the devil he was. I would see him indulge in fast food and sweets where all the others of his kind gathered. The students would drooled and flap their arms, while they watched. I pitied them all.It was settled. Armed with my findings I decided to go see Berry next thing tomorrow. The thoughts of TV in my room made me jump like a little kid I am. I laughed in my happiness, bits of saliva drooling from my mouth hitting the soil below, causing virgin daisies to grow where the earth and liquid joined. I saw him leave the house. I went around the bushes so he would not see me. “See you Anne”, he mouthed to her, as waved goodbye to her. Anne was a pretty name. For a moment I wished she could care for me, but then I remembered people like her do not care of us. I had to get back.I flied back to school. All of the fools gathered there, uniformed, listening to my story. They all congratulated me when I told them. My plan was perfect, I was sure of it. Berry came for a visit to check up on us the next day. I told him all I knew, all the while laughing in his face. Other students joined me, and they laughed and giggled. We all pointed at his big fat face. Crumbs stuck to his big fat lips. Flies gathered on the big fat greased flesh and urinated all over it, their yellow excretions running down his chin soaking my bed sheet. But Berry was not embarrassed. He just looked at me, smiled and made me drink the red pills. The ones I hate the most."That’s a good boy, George. Be careful now, if you keep this bed wetting business I will have to review your case. We don’t want that now do we. Remember George, I am your friend."Anne came into the room, though she looked different. Her hair was red now. Underneath her unbuttoned coat there was a yellow blouse, inviting looks from the sinful. She asked him if I was improving. I wasn’t sick, why would she say that. He looked at me, and shook his head. ”Let’s get out of here”, he smiled at her big blue eyes. Glancing all the while, winking at me, like the devil he is. I could not comprehend this.Holding hands they left together, shutting the door upon which I saw my name, attached to which there was my file, thick and yellow pages abound. They left me there alone, amidst the insane, a forgotten soul, strapped to the hospital bed. The night now comes too slow. * * * *A little rope made from their sheets And I become, a bird now seen Never was, but now I’m free From above, the dead I see

My lovebird Minty flew into the door and had to get him to the vet as he bashed his eye and just lay in his cage for the whole day. It is 24 hours later and he is eating, drinking, perching, talking and going to the loo. Still very wobbly and lopsided - can fly but unbalanced when he walks and still not himself.Has this happened to anyone else and did your bird eventually after a few days get better?I have separated Minty from his partner so that he has his own cage and at the moment he is in another room to keep him quiet and rested but will tomorrow bring his cage next to his mate for a few hours as they do miss each other.Does anyone have any suggestions as a similar thing has happened to their lovebird?

Well yesterday, I went to go see a kitten (4 months old)named Thunder.I think. Not sure because there was a lot of them. But she was just the cutest little thing and she could NOT leave my side. And I asked my mom she said to ask my dad, so that means if my dad says no then no but if he says YES then YAY! I have really never had a pet. Just a few fish and 2 birds. But they dont do much and mine aren't even that messy so we dont have to clean up as much as others. She's free. But I need to get her shots. And she still drinks her mothers milk so we wont be getting her until probably like October. But I need to know how to persuade my dad.PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE.I also have depression and I thought getting a pet might help me because it was suggested.Thank you so much. 10 points to the BEST ANSWER!
