Resolved Question: Ron Paul's...
America became the greatest, most prosperous nation in human history through low taxes, constitutionally limited government, personal freedom and a belief in sound money. We need to return to these principles so our economy can thrive again. When enacted, my plan will provide both short-term stimulus and lay the groundwork for long-term prosperity. Other candidates talk a lot about stimulus packages, but my record stands alone. I have fought for these measures for years as a member of Congress and will make them a top priority as president. Ron Paul, a 10-term Republican Congressman from Texas's 14th District, is currently the ranking member of the House Financial Services Committee's Subcommittee on Domestic and International Monetary Policy, Trade, and Technology. He has been named "Taxpayers' Best Friend" for 10 consecutive years by the National Taxpayers' Union. Ron Paul is also the author of several books on monetary policy and economics. The Four-Point Plan Tax Reform: Reduce the tax burden and eliminate taxes that punish investment and savings, including job-killing corporate taxes. Spending Reform: Eliminate wasteful spending. Reduce overseas commitments. Freeze all non-defense, non-entitlement spending at current levels. Monetary Policy Reform: Expand openness at the Federal Reserve and require the Fed to televise its meetings. Return value to our money. Regulatory Reform: Repeal Sarbanes/Oxley regulations that push companies to seek capital outside of US markets. Stop restricting community banks from fostering local economic growth. 1. Tax Reform Eliminate Taxes on Dividends and Savings. The basis of capitalism is savings, and Americans who do so should be rewarded. Pass HJ Res. 23 to encourage savings over consumption. Repeal the Death Tax. Attacking small businesses and breaking up family farms smothers growth and kills jobs. Pass H.R. 2734 to make the Bush tax cuts permanent. Cut Taxes for Working Seniors. Grandmothers and grandfathers working to make ends meet should keep all the fruits of their labor. Pass H.R. 191 to amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to repeal the inclusion in gross income of Social Security benefits. Eliminate Taxes on Social Security Benefits. That money belongs to seniors, not the government. They paid into the system for a lifetime, and they should be free to spend every penny as they see fit. Pass H.R. 192 to amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to repeal the 1993 increase in taxes on Social Security benefits. Accelerate Depreciation on Investment. We need to help companies grow and create jobs. Pass H.R. 4995 to amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to reduce corporate marginal income tax rates. Eliminate Taxes on Capital Gains. Investment should be embraced and rewarded. Pass H.J. Res 23 (The “Liberty Amendment”), proposing an amendment to the Constitution of the United States relative to abolishing personal income, estate, and gift taxes and prohibiting the United States Government from engaging in business in competition with its citizens. Eliminate Taxes on Tips. The single parents and working students who earn their income chiefly through tips deserve to keep all of their money. This tax on "estimated income" is unfair and should be ended. Pass H.R. 3664 to amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to provide that tips shall not be subject to income or employment taxes. Support the Mortgage Cancellation Relief Act. Working families who lost their homes should not be punished a second time with a big IRS bill. Pass H.R. 1876 to amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to exclude from the gross income of individual taxpayers discharges of indebtedness attributable to certain forgiven residential mortgage obligations. 2. Spending Reform Reduce Overseas Military Commitments. Our bases and troops should be on our soil. It's time to stop subsidizing our trading partners in Europe, Japan and South Korea. Freeze Non-Defense, Non-Entitlement Spending at Current Levels I vote against all bloated, pork laden spending bills and will veto them as president.3. Monetary Policy Reform Televise Federal Open Market Committee Meetings. An institution as powerful as the Federal Reserve deserves full public scrutiny. Expand Transparency and Accountability at the Federal Reserve Pass H.R. 2754 to require the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System to continue to make available to the public on a weekly basis information on the measure of the M3 monetary aggregate and its components. Return Value to Our Money. Legalize gold and silver as a competing currency. Level the long-term boom and bust business cycle by passing H.R. 4683, which would repeal provisions of the federal criminal code relating to issuing coins of gold, silver, or other metal for use as current money and making or possessing likenesses of such coins. 4. Regulatory Reform Repeal Sarbanes/Oxley. It has seriously wounded our capital markets and helped make the UK a financial center at our expense. Ending these misguided regulations would bring jobs flooding back to the United StatesPass H.R. 1049 to reform Sarbanes-Oxley and reduce the burden it places on small businesses. Repeal or Remove Costly and Unnecessary Federal Regulations. Neighbors know best how to help their neighbors. We need to make it easier for community banks, credit unions, and other financial institutions to better serve their communities and to help people in these communities get access to credit and capital. Pass H.R. 1869 to enhance the ability of community banks to foster economic growth and serve their communities, boost small businesses, increase individual savings, and for other purposes.

On two fronts. Why do we take classes on useless subjects? And at the same time, why do school fails to teach things that are useful--like how to manage personal finances or how to apply for a home loan? Meanwhile, at the University of Houston, I was required by state law to have an Arts/Dance credit. Why did I have to pay for that?Second, I think there ought to be textbook reform. I remember that Houghton-Mifflin instead of selling bound books chose to sell unbound books. They sold stacks of paper that were shrink wrapped and three-hole punched. You'd have to buy your own binder to put the pages in. This ensures that the books will be non-returnable or cannot be sold back into the market either through the bookstore or through ebay. Public universities are too powerful, they're making too much money, and they're too corrupt.I also remember an algebra class I had to take and was required to purchase the 8th edition of the textbook. If I'm not mistake, algebra has been around for hundreds of years. What has changed since the 1st edition that came out in 1996?I don't know about other schools, but while it said University of Houston Bookstore on the sign, we wrote our checks to Barnes & Noble. It's all one big scam, and we need laws to stop this waste of tax dollars and people's paychecks. Why haven't I heard about that guy? Why does everyone, including me, just quietly take it in the a** and fork over more money? Why does this issue appear here on Answers and not on the government agendaYea. It is mandated by the Texas State Legislature that all college students take "basic" courses, which include an Arts class. It's the law.

I do not see how you can ban the f word from school. people can say anything they want most of the time but cant say the f word.No one cares if you say stupid or shutup, crap, crud, hello, goodbye or hate.what sets this f word from all other words? would it be fair for school administration to punish a kid for saying the f word given the circumstances it was not interrupting class and it was out in the hallway and it was said to one person without them caring while a teacher eavesdrops on the conversation? My school policy book states all rules for my high school. It says nothing about profanity being disallowed. And even if it did, who is to say what is profanity and what isnt?I think the only way you could actually ban the f word or any words for that matter, is to do the following:1. state that the school establishment is controlling the language and thought of its students.2. supply every person with a list of banned words thank you, i would like your input.okay, i nor noone else is discussing "if it make me look bad" or whatever. the bottom question is who gets to say what is and what isnt a swear word.and i am all for following rules, i just need to know specifically what the rules are.and maybe some people hear the word "baloney" and it brings back some psychotic memory and offends them, i dont know. there is no word that offends 100% of the population.

My son is 12 years old. He doesn't want to go to his dad's anymore because he says he feels that his dad doesn't pay attention to him and treats his other children (from other women, not me) like they're better. He's sick of it after all these years. When I talk to his dad about it he says it isn't true. Of course I'm not there to witness any of this, but I believe my son. Anyway, we went to court in 1997 for child support and visitation, but I seem to remember the judge saying something about our son having the legal right to refuse at a certain age. I can't afford an attorney right now to ask and everywhere I tried to call to get an answer just told me to get an attorney. I'm going to the public library to see what's there, but I thought if there is such a law, wouldn't it be written in a book somewhere for the public to have access to? Wouldn't it be a law pertaining to all cases in general, or just case by case? Please help, there's more than I can type and he just wants out.The main reason I believe my son is because he has a little brother now that's treating him the same way. I think kids imitate their enviroment and he sees the others pick on him and call him names so now he does too. His dad doesn't get involved with his education or try to learn about his ADD to better understand his son. His dad says "he needs to toughen up" and "boys will be boys", but my son's 12 and his older brother's 18 and he still picks on him like a little kid! And the one that really makes me angry is his aunts boyfriend (an adult!) is picking on him too! I just found that out last night and I'm so mad right now but I have to do things the legal way not only to try and be the mature one, but to show my children how the law works and to respect it. Please Help!!!See I have been trying to encourage him all these years, but he's crying. The boys push him around and won't stop when he tells them. The family likes wrestling but my son doesn't. When his dad got married he didn't even invite our son to the wedding! He's not involved in his life, he didn't even come around until I filed for child support.

Resolved Question: What do you think...
This book is subtitled The Hope for Healing Human Evil, and is written by a psychiatrist who thought that about 20 percent of the population had sociopathic tendencies. He defines evil as a character disorder and describes evil people as those who lack empathy for their victims and who are often obessed with projecting a public image of respectiblility.

Does it say anywhere in the book, that the "zombie" actually leaves the fisher's alone when their problems are made public??
Open Question: What do you think...
Since United is implementing a $25.00 charge for a 2nd bag/suitcase when flying with their company, will this make a difference when you (or the public in general) are deciding which carrier to book a flight from?I'm curious to see if the added expense will change how people select airline travel. They say the "extra" luggage fee is to combat the increased fuel costs. Any thoughts?
Open Question: My family and I are...
I am 34, husband is 35, children are 8,7, 2 and 4 months. Should we go, it will be during the summer of 2009 so the children will be a bit older at this point. My question is, what sorts of things should I prepare them for? Things that are different than our lives here in the US. We live in a diversified section of Louisisana so seeing different ppl is not a big deal. But what about language differences? Food differences? Customs? Does anyone know of a good children's book to introduce them to these things? I know there are some hygeine differences as far as using restrooms and bathing goes, but I'd also be interested in knowing if they'd be welcome in public school. The 2 older children are straight A students, both very resillient. But i don't want them to have total culture shock, so any information about weather, recreation sports, etc would be awesome. Thanks in advance
Resolved Question: How funny we are;...
There are certain Germans who may disagree...as well as Brits. Coventry for one, for they - as well as (mostly) East Londoners, were sacrificed with Mr. Churchill doing dodgy deals with the Germans...which all 'went well' in the end, but as with innocent Iraqis recently (in a war which is still going on)...in order to achieve check-mate sixty years previously, some of the 'good guys' - innocent public - had to go. Some comic-book figure he was...Thank you for all answers. No...Iam not accusing Winston Churchill of being a 'comic book' figure - just amused at the public (1 in 4) thinking he was, along with one of those 'mythical' beings who smoked pipes while growling at the world.
Open Question: Women in public places?
When I go into certain public places, for example a mall, I've begun to notice girls looking at me. At first, I though maybe my fly is unzipped or something like that; however, men don't look at me. Are the females checking me out? I can't imagine why they would do this; I would say I'm average looking, but kind of plain (I'm German and Scottish). If this happens again, and I find the girl attractive, should I speak to her? Also, women talk to me sometimes in line at the grocery store, book store, etc. Are they just being friendly or are they interested in me?I'm pretty clueless when it comes to romance. :(
Open Question: public speaking!?
i need help with that. i always find myslef looking like a afraid nervous wreck when it comes to presentations. i don't know. i'm not one of those people who can talk for hours and hours. i'm just not. i lose track of what i'm going to say, and then i have to stop for like 5 seconds and then i continue on, what comes out of my mouth during presentations dont' make sense. one time, i was presenting about a book. this is what i basically said, " ok so it's about this guy, and his mom dies in the beginning of the story, but then he meets a girl and falls in love with her, and then he helps her by finding her long last sister," see this doesn't really make sense as i am writing this out now. I want deserted tropical beaches for my romantic get away but neither of us has a driving liscence and we wont be able to hire a car. Open Question: Debating speech?
well i have a debating speech adn ive started and have now written the introduction... just hope some people will give me some feedback such as lenth and ideas on how to fixShould The Media censor its books and films? ( affermitve)The Media controls the contents of millions of books and films, which worldwide are consumed without question into the minds of billions of people both young and old 24/7 around the clock. In our efficient world that we have today in average most households, schools and public libraries have available TVs, books and computers which are liberally used without restraint towards the general public, this fact therefore must ask us together as one to question whether the media should censor its books and films from the violent, sexual explicit or negative ideologies and protect those vulnerable to these destructive contents that are generally found in books and films.thanks guys
Resolved Question: Do women wait for...
I ask because on a number of occasions I've seen girls around campus "studying". By that I mean they only look down at their books/notes for maybe 5 - 10 seconds before looking around to see whose walking past. Are these girls just waiting to be approached?
Open Question: The Recycling Myth ?...
The Recycling Myth By Per Bylund Posted on 2/4/2008 [Subscribe or Tell Others] << Previous Story | Index | Next Story >>As a Swede I get to hear a lot of the myths of how wonderful a country Sweden supposedly is — the "prosperous socialism" it stands for, a role model for the rest of the world. For instance, quite a few friends from around the world have commended me on Swedish recycling polices and the Swedish government's take on coercive environmentalism. The way it has been presented to me, Sweden has succeeded with what most other governments at best dream about: creating an efficient and profitable national system for saving the environment through large-scale recycling. And the people are all in on it! Everybody's recycling. The latter is actually true: everybody is recycling. But that is the result of government force, not a voluntary choice. The state's monopolist garbage-collection "service" no longer accepts garbage: they will only collect leftovers and other biodegradables. Any other kind of garbage that accidentally finds its way to your garbage bin can result in a nice little fine (it really isn't that little) and the whole neighborhood could face increased garbage collection rates (i.e., even larger increases than usual — they tend to increase annually or biannually anyway). So what do you do with your waste? Most homes have a number of trash bins for different kinds of trash: batteries in one; biodegradables in one; wood in one; colored glass in one, other glass in another; aluminum in one, other metals in another; newspapers in one, hard paper in another, and paper that doesn't fit these two categories in a third; and plastic of all sorts in another collection of bins. The materials generally have to be cleaned before thrown away — milk cartons with milk in them cannot be recycled just as metal cans cannot have too much of the paper labels left. The people of Sweden are thus forced to clean their trash before carefully separating different kinds of materials. This is the future, they say, and it is supposedly good for the environment. (What about the economy?)But it doesn't end with the extra work at home and the extra space in each and every kitchen occupied by a variety of trash bins. What do you do with the trash that isn't collected? The garbage collection service (which nowadays doesn't offer collection too often, usually biweekly or monthly, even though the rates mysteriously seem to be much higher than before) only accepts certain types of garbage, generally only biodegradable food leftovers. But do not worry; it is all taken care of. The authorities have established trash collection centers in most neighborhoods where you get to throw away your trash. These "centers" offer numerous containers where you can throw away your trash — there is one container dedicated for each and every kind of trash and they are all neatly color-coded to help you find the right one. But this means you better have separated your aluminum from your other metals and your newspapers from your soft and hard papers before you get here. You wouldn't want to throw away dirty milk cartons or unsorted paper, would you?But it seems people do just that: they cheat if they believe they are better off doing so. So the authorities have responded by making it more difficult to cheat. Their first measure was to redesign all containers so that it is more difficult throwing the "wrong" trash in them. For instance, containers for glass have only small, round holes where you put your bottles, and containers for hard paper and carton materials have only letter-slit shaped holes (you need to flatten all boxes before recycling — that's the law). Well, that didn't do the trick. People kept on cheating. And the more difficult the authorities made it to cheat, the more difficult it was to get rid of the trash even if you intended to put it in the right place. So people went to these centers and simply put everything next to the containers instead — why bother? The authorities responded by appointing salaried "trash collection center spies" (!) to document who was cheating so that they could be brought to justice. (There have actually been a few court cases where people have been tried for not following recycling laws.) Need I say the attempt to appoint spies didn't work either? After a rather hot-spirited debate in the media, all spying at trash collection centers was abolished. But the real question here is not to what degree the authorities are ignorant of what spurs human action. We already have numerous examples of this ignorance being quite huge. The question is: does this recycling structure work? The answer is that, from a government point of view, while it can probably be thought of as working, from an environmental point of view, the answer is definitely "no.""Imagine a whole population spending time and money cleaning their garbage and driving it around the neighborhood rather than working or investing in a productive market! "The structure works the way all centrally planned structures work: it increases and centralizes power while the attempted (expected) results do not materialize. In this case, the structure works: people do sort their trash in different bins — they have no choice. Also, government garbage collection companies do not have to do as much work while getting paid more than ever before. People are annoyed, but do not really react. Swedes generally complain a lot (about everything), but they do not resist; they are used to being pushed around by powerful government and have tolerated this fate ever since 1523.This coercive recycling structure is set up in layers, where the consumer ("producer" of waste) gets to do most of the work of sorting, cleaning, and transporting the trash to collection centers. Government-appointed companies then empty the containers and transport the materials to regional centers where the trash is prepared for recycling. And then everything is transported to centralized recycling plants where the materials are prepared for reuse or burning. Finally what is left of the materials is sold to companies and individuals at subsidized prices so that they can make "environmentally friendly" choices. What is interesting about this Soviet-style planned recycling is that it is officially profitable. It is supposed to be resource efficient, since recycling of the materials is less energy-consuming than, for instance, mining or the production of paper from wood. It is also economically profitable, since the government actually generates revenues from selling recycled materials and products made in the recycling process. The final recycling process costs less than is earned from selling the recycled products. However, this is common government logic: it is "energy saving" simply because government does not count the time and energy used by nine million people cleaning and sorting their trash. Government authorities and researchers have reached the conclusion that the cost of (a) the water and electricity used for cleaning household trash, (b) transportation from trash collection centers, and (c) the final recycling process is actually less than would be necessary to produce these materials from scratch. Of course, they don't count the literally millions of times people drive to the recycling centers to empty their trash bins; neither do they count, for instance, energy and costs for the extra housing space required for a dozen extra trash bins in every home.Economically, Swedish recycling is a disaster. Imagine a whole population spending time and money cleaning their garbage and driving it around the neighborhood rather than working or investing in a productive market! According to the government's books, more money flows in than flows out; therefore recycling is profitable. But this ignores the costs of coercion. The government bookkeepers also take advantage of the cost cuts they have been able to realize through centralizing the garbage collection system. These "cuts," however, are mostly cuts in service, whereas rates for consumers have been increased. A recent problem with the garbage-collection centers is that the containers aren't emptied very often (a typical example of government "savings") and thus remain full, which means that people's garbage piles up next to the overflowing containers while the government contractors sit idle: they are only paid to empty the containers on schedule, not to pick up the trash sitting next to these containers. The result? Disease and rats. Newspapers have been reporting on a "rat invasion" in Stockholm and in other Swedish cities in recent years. If we consider the costs in monetary terms, in terms of wasted time, and in terms of increased emissions from automobiles, this is hardly environmentally friendly. Adding the annoyance and the increased risk for disease, Swedish recycling is at least as disastrous as any other government scheme. This should be expected, since the system is so authoritarian in style, structure, and management. It might be more "high-tech" and advanced than the Soviet systems ever were, but it is still a system founded on command rather than voluntary choice based on interest or incentive. Interestingly enough, the system is too socialist even for Sweden's number one socialist newspaper, Aftonbladet. In an op-ed on January 4, 2002, Lena Askling wrote on the public garbage collection system: $25 $15 We [consumers] are supposed to sort, compost, parcel, store, and transport the trash. We are supposed to keep on with this cockamamie of storing compost garbage in small containers in apartments and villas and then transport the stinking, leaking trash to dedicated bins or collection centers, which seem to always be brim-full.Why in the name of the Lord cannot the government introduce "market incentives" to stimulate industry and producers to develop rational packaging and garbage disposal systems enabling recycling, energy production and future import revenue? And perhaps a consumer friendly and hygienically acceptable system instead of the current trash and filth chaos? While I'm waiting, mice are scurrying around in my garbage compartment.Even Askling, who writes socialist propaganda for a living, knows the Swedish recycling scheme doesn't work; and she concludes it is in need of more market. Please enlighten me, wherein lies the so-often-acclaimed success of this system?--------------------------------------------------------------------------------Per Bylund is a PhD student in economics at the University of Missouri and the founder of Anarchism.net. Resolved Question: Is this a good...
In this country we have a great deal of homophobia. The public should be more aware of how horribly they can treat the LGBT community. This behavior has come to the point where people are hiding who they are do to the fear of being harassed and bashed. Gay teens are afraid to go to school because of what there peers might do to them. Women are getting paid less just because they’re lesbians. No matter their race, religion, or sexual orientation people should not be afraid to be themselves in there own country and should be treated as equals. On average a gay teen hears the words “faggot” or “dyke” directed to them 25 times a day. Some of them can’t even get away from the torment when they get home because there parents are against them too. Parents are kicking their kids out of the house just because they don’t want to have a gay kid. At such a young age how are they supposed to survive alone on the streets? Kids are missing school to get away from harassment and some are getting kicked out of school just because of homophobia. Why should anyone be afraid to go to school or deprived of there education? Guys may get teased by they’re peers for being too feminine and happy, but there comments are making gay four times likely to attempt suicide. Unfortunately the harassment doesn’t stop there, it goes on to adulthood. Being openly gay and trying to get a job can be very hard, a lot of people don’t want homosexuals in there working environment. The discrimination has gotten to the point where you can’t be openly gay in the army. A gay person can dedicate their entire life to fighting for a country that hates them and deprives them of rights. But can only do so while pretending to be straight. People are saying that if a man was openly gay it would make the other men uncomfortable. If a gay man is surrounded by homophobes with guns shouldn’t he be uncomfortable? People can be charged with homosexual conduct and be kicked out of the army. Being charged with something means you have committed a crime. Homosexuality is not crime, but not being treated as an equal buy the government is. Homophobia got to the point where they were trying to get people to stop being gay. Gay men were getting parts of there brain cut out because that part of the brain was thought to be the cause of homosexuality. Brain surgery can kill you it shouldn’t be used to try and “cure” something that can’t be cured. It has been proven that homosexuality is not a choice, but a cause of nature. Making someone feel like there life isn’t worth living because of something they have no control over is morally wrong. Although some people may say “According to the bible homosexuality is a sin” well so is lying, cheating and stealing. The bible says homosexuality is a sin just like everything else humans do naturally, but as many times the bible has been translated someone could have just put it in there because they wanted to. The bible is a big book but nowhere in it does it say to verbally and physically harass someone until they want to take there life. According to the bible that’s a sin.Homophobia is a big problem and needs to be dealt with. Gay people are not hurting anyone buy being gay, but people are hurting them. Discrimination against gays goes from not being able to get married to being bashed. It is a human right to be treated as an equal and that’s what should be happening. No one can make you make you like gay people the same way you like straight people, but you have to tolerate them. If you don’t you could end up the parent that throws there kid out, the basher putting a kid within an inch of there life or the government official taking his brothers’ rights away. Gay people are people too and don’t want to be tolerated they want to be loved for who they are. But people aren’t going to just drop their hate so the LGBT community has to settle for toleration. Help give LGBT people a better life and treat them like the human beings they are. Why would you want to be that person who doesn’t?Nice. I take that whole sounding like a 9th grader thing a compliment since i'm an eight grader. But thank you. Oh and do you mind if I use that?Yeah i know the stats are a bit off , but they only had one book on it for my paper and i had to use it. So it wasn't all that new.

Prison sentences were never listed as punishments by God in the book of commandments. He told Moses that intentional murderers should be put to death, that theives should pay back double or more of what they stole, and that certain crimes could have up to 40 lashes depending on what the judges ruled. These punishments are divinely given and the prison system is based upon man and the sentences fluctuate and change based on the public and the judges opinions. What's even more messed up is that the victims' families have to pay for their food, housing, healthcare, and various other things. Many of the prisoners get better healthcare than the victims of the crimes themselves.

Before anyone labels anyone a racist, this was a black mngr terminating a black employee. This same mngr also gave this girl many chances to clean up her act before writing her up.Employee was combative, rude to clients/other mngrs, (even threatened to "cut" someone), excessively tardy, absent, and was given a fair share of warnings. She fought it on the grounds of discrimination and lost. She could not collect unemployment ins, as she was terminated on the grounds of "misconduct".Our company has also had to make qualifying and re-fresher exams easier, because they were told they were too difficult for certain races. These are open book exams(you look up the answers) and taken by people who were born here and had the same opportunities of attending public schools and receiving a decent education. In the end, the quality of service suffers and the company loses money. Not saying this pertains to all. But, I have seen it happen more often than not.

KAFKAKafka never cared about being reminisced .He was not like Andre Gide, who kept a copy of his each letter. He was not meticulous in his work at all, either. He even did not assist his publisher in making his several books that he wrote throughout his life public. While he was in deathbed,he asked one of his friends to burn his unfinished works which puts him in his unique place in World literature. He had never talked about his letters he wrote to Milena,Felice and other friends of his, because he did not anticipate that his letters might have been kept and published posthumously.

The last few weeks I've needed a particular item, but could not find it affordably. Out of the blue, an adjustable gadget idea came to me. I believe this idea will have mass appeal in hardware and fitness industries. Is there a database where I can check to see if similar items have been created? So far I've found nothing like it online. Also, are there any online groups or books that will explain the basic steps required to market and sell an idea and/or invention. I don't have a prototype, but it's so simple, I could draw it on paper. I will be SHOCKED if no one has ever come up with this idea. Also, if an idea is considered as something that is easily marketed, but inexpensive to make, are there companies who will invest the money intially, without my having to do so? I suspect this gadget can be made for $20, probably less if materials are purchased in bulk. Thanks

I'm reading a book talking about the CIA and its covert interventions since the overthrow of Iran's democratically elected prime minister, Mossagdeh, in 1953. The author says this intervention and others are the only ones in the public record. So, does the public record mean books, magazines, and other media that the public can have access to? If this is the public record, why do some people always defend arguments and ideas by saying "it's in the public record" ? I could write some bogus book and have it published and just because it's available doesn't really lend credible support to an argument. Right?

Resolved Question: Real People For...
Barack Obama is getting massive press hype without Americans knowing much of anything about him. He started his public career with an unusual move--- writing a book where he talks about using cocaine. It's unconventional, but damned if it doesn't look like it just might work. No one's sure what stuff he ISN'T telling us though. If you have any tips, as always please email us. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Quotes"I think very highly of Hillary. The more I get to know her, the more I admire her. I think she's one of the most disciplined people I know. She's one of the toughest. She's got an extraordinary intelligence, and she's somebody who's in this stuff for the right reasons. She's passionate about moving the country forward on issues like health care and children." -- Barack Obama "It was a mistake to have been engaged with him [Antoin Rezko] at all in this or any other personal business dealing that would allow him, or anyone else, to believe that he had done me a favor" -- Barack Obama "There's no doubt that this was a mistake on my part. 'Boneheaded' would be accurate. There's no doubt I should have seen some red flags in terms of me purchasing a piece of property from him." - Barack Obama CocaineLong before he ever ran for political office, Obama wrote a book about, well, himself, and his amazing his journey from messed up kid to, um, himself. It was quite an epic, considering he was 34 at the time. In that book, called "Dreams From My Pusher", oops I mean "Dreams From My Father", he writes that he used marijuana and cocaine ("maybe a little blow".) Oddly enough, he writes that he didn't try heroin because -- wait for it -- he didn't like the pusher who was selling it. (Weren't there any other reasons?) In a later interview, he added "Teenage boys are frequently confused."Favors For (and From) A Shady Chicago Businessman Barack Obama has been friends with Antoin ("Tony") Rezko since at least 1990. Rezko offered him a job in the early 1990s (declined), and has raised at least $60,000 for Obama's campaigns. In return, Barack arranged an internship in 2005 for John Aramanda, the son of a Rezko business associate (Joseph Aramanda, who himself gave Barack $11,500.) There's more. In June, 2005, Obama bought a house in Chicago for $1.65 million. The same day, Rezko bought the vacant lot next door for $625,00. Seven months later, Rezko sold Barack a slice (1/6th) of his lot so the Obamas could have a bigger yard. There's no evidence that Rezko bought the vacant land for any other reason than to do Obama a favor. Here's the real problem: among other problems, Rezko is under indictment in a federal government corruption case for demanding kickbacks from companies wanting to do business with Illinois Governor Blagojevich, another politician that Rezko has befriended and donated to. (Rezko is also under indictment for shaking down a Hollywood producer for $1.5 million in campaign contributions for Blagojevich. The guy takes care of his friends.) In fact, Joseph Aramanda is an unindicted co-conspirator in one of the kickback cases. Obama has admitted that the land deal was a mistake, and donated $11,500 given to him directly by Rezko to charity. Educated in a Madrassa? Fox News ran a story claiming that Obama had been educated in a madrassa school in Indonesia. If you're not familiar with that term, it's a type of fundamentalist Muslim school, often funded by the extremist Wahabi sect of Islam (with Saudi money) and often very anti-American.There was only one problem with the story: it was completely false. Yes, Obama had gone to school in Indonesia as a kid; two schools in fact. One was Catholic, the other was a public school, with teachers and kids of various faiths. The only scandal here is that Fox News ran the story with no facts or reporting backing it up. They simply repeated a story from a highly partisan website, with no effort to check out the school. It's there, still open, and easily visited. Reporters who did so found out that the story was false in minutes. InterviewShe may be quiet, but this unique girl is sure fun to be around! Today as a kid, she enjoys making people feel better, but yet she dreams of even better…becoming a psychologist as an adult! A multinational girl, this cheerleader is Polish, Irish, Russian, German, Lithuanian, Scottish, Swedish and British! She sees herself as unique because she laughs about everything! Can you guess who she is now?! You got it, it’s Jennifer (Jen)*last name hidden*!Jen’s mom is Patty and her dad is Cliff. Her three brothers are Michael, Matthew, and Alec, as she is the third oldest. By the fun, loving kind of girl she is, you could have already guessed that Jennifer’s favorite color is pink! Jen is really into music, as her favorite song is No one, by Alicia Keys. She says that she likes all types of music, but usually depends on what mood she’s in. A few things that she really is not that into are people that insult others, bugs, and crying, which is not all that astonishing, therefore, many people don’t enjoy these things either! Her favorite kind of food is Chinese food! You may see Jen walking through the crowded halls of CHS with Natalia and Annetta, her two best friends of course! There’s also a very special someone in Jennifer’s life! I’m sure there are many very special people in her life that she loves and adores, but this one happens to be her loving boyfriend Adrian! When Jen isn’t with Adrian, she enjoys spending her time listening to music! Don’t forget to buy Jen a Rugrats in Paris tee shirt for her birthday, 6/20/93’, because, (DUH!), that’s Jen’s favorite movie! She also happens to love the book Child called It! Jen also likes talking and she enjoys hanging out with her friends.A couple other things you may not have known about this sweet girl is that her hero is her oldest brother Michael and she loves shopping at American Eagle, Against all Odds and Aeropostale! Jennifer also says that she loves New York, but someday would like to travel across the globe and visit the Aussie continent with the crazy, bouncing kangaroos…Australia!Well, that’s Jennifer *last name hidden* for you! As you can already tell, she’s pretty cool! Jen is down to earth, caring, and fun! Get to know her!
Open Question: Sun/Earth...
The internet (at my house) says that the sun is 93,000,000 miles away.A book I found in the public library (about 1.5 miles from my house according to the speedometer/odometer on my bike) says that the sun is 92,955,820.5 miles away. The library is down hill from me and if I coast I can hit almost 28 mph on my bike without touching the brakes and I even have bad wheel bearings that slow the bike down, so you can see it is a pretty big hill that we live on.I am trying to figure out how accurate is my odometer? Can I do it? Or do I need to know what time of day it is (I can do this again after school about 3pm if needed)?
